Wobbly Dodge. Q I have a ’99 Dodge 2500 4x4 that I can’t drive because of death wobble. The truck only has 104,000 miles on it. The body is in bad shape but it can be fixed, and the truck and is paid off so it’s worth fixing. A The coil spring/four-link suspension used on Dodge trucks and Jeep Wrangler TJs is a great overall design, but it’s not without its problems. By far the most common tech questions we receive are about fixing death wobble on either TJs or Dodge trucks. Death wobble is the result of excessive wear or play somewhere in the front end, or a vehicle that is grossly out of alignment. Several things can trigger death wobble, including vehicle speed, hitting a bump in the road just right, or even tires that are a little out of balance. The trouble with death wobble is that it can be caused by many different components, so it can be hard to pin down. Check the tie-rod and draglink ends for excessive play or other damage, check the steering shaft that connects the box to the steering wheel (they are notoriously bad on your Dodge), and check the steering box itself. The track bar on this type of suspension is under a lot of strain because it’s the only component holding the axle in place side-to-side. track bars are well known for going bad on both Dodge trucks and Jeeps. Its name, actually, is derived from the German-market Taunus Transit van, a last-minute change. The first Transit, a rear-wheel-drive van, was launched in 1965 with a basic design that carried on for more than twenty years. The box shape was fitted with a different nose for the diesel engine and high-performance V-6 engines. Another facelift came in 1984. Engine size grew up to 4. 1 liters in Australia, a high-performance market until recently. The first complete redesign came in 1986, and it saw the Transit adopt a more aerodynamic style. A fitting companion to forward-looking passenger cars like the Ford Sierra and Scorpio, it remained on a rear-wheel-drive platform. Fourteen years later, for 2000, the Transit was redesigned yet again—and for the first time, the rear-wheel-drive model was complemented with a front-wheel-drive derivative. Our favorite Transit of this era is the rear-wheel-drive version with the 200-hp 3. 2-liter Duratorq diesel—a capable drifter, as it turns out. In 2012, the front-wheel-drive Transit was replaced by the Transit Custom. the rear-wheel-drive models received a larger replacement in 2014, the “real” Transit, which serves up a modern-day interpretation of the first diesel’s “pig snout.
