The Dodge County Fairgrounds’ dirt track is home to sprint car and motorcycle racing, but the annual Dodge County Fair brings a different breed of competition that doesn’t involve vehicles engineered by savvy minds. Matt Schoebel is the race announcer for the Swine Time Pig Racing on the Dodge County Fairgrounds and said it’s still fun to announce after 24 seasons. When it’s race time, it’s not hard to find the red track with checkered flags and Schoebel’s pig-pun commentary. Schoebel and his family are from Germania and have been racing pigs for 25 years at various fairs across the Midwest. Schoebel said his first fair pig racing was in 1991 and he didn’t become a staple at the Dodge County Fair until around 2008. “We stay in the Midwest and we do about seven or eight fairs a year,” he said. According to him, his family bought the red pig-racing track from another pig racer named Larry who resided in Sauk City. “He was either the second or the third guy in the country racing pigs back in the mid ‘80s,” Schoebel said. He said he can’t remember how long Larry was racing, but Schoebel is still using the same metal fences, hinges and doors that Larry used years ago. Source: www.wiscnews.com

Gar Robinson Wins at Mid-Ohio, Lewis Finishes Second. Gar Robinson earned the first win of his Trans Am career in Round 7 of the 2015 season, at the challenging Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Gar piloted the #74 Chevrolet Camaro to victory lane in the FirstEnergy Muscle Car Challenge presented by 3-Dimensional Services Group on Friday. Putting on quite the show for race fans, the TA2 Class competitors battled intensely during the breathtaking, oftentimes nail-biting, 45-lap race. The green flag dropped at 4:45 pm ET on Friday with a field of 32 competitors in the TA2 Class, consisting exclusively of American muscle cars: Chevrolet Camaros, Ford Mustangs and Dodge Challengers. In the late afternoon race, Lewis quickly overtook the pole sitter, as he set the pace in the first lap and led five laps. In lap 22, he lost the lead after spinning out in oil and fell just outside the top 10. This gave Gar the opportunity to vie for the top spot, among the combative front-runners putting it all on the line for a victory. In the fevered quest to recover from 12th in lap 22, Lewis set a new track record at Mid-Ohio in the TA2 Class with a lap time of 1:27. 929. Carroll Shelby turned Omnirizons and K-cars into budget-priced front-tire-shredding monsters back in the 1980s, and you can make the Shelby Dodges even more ridiculous with the addition of 21st-century turbocharger technology. Both cars would be excellent candidates for all-consuming Hell Projects, but the Shelby association with the cars lends them a certain amount of name recognition, which gives Hell Garage Penitents a bit of hope shining like a beam of sunlight... That means that the ideal Shelby Dodge Hell Project is one that uses the know-how that Chrysler gleaned during its collaboration with Carroll Shelby, but not the obvious Omni GLH or Shelby Charger profile or, in some cases, the Shelby name on the... You'll know your Hell Project is the spiritual descendent of the AC Cobra, but your hopped-up, 450-hp torque-steerer will elicit nothing but puzzled glances from all but the most fanatically knowledgeable car freaks. Remember the Dodge Spirit R/T of 1991 and 1992. If so, you know that this little 2,800-pound K-platform derivative could beat the BMW M5 in a drag race, at just more than a third the price of the Bavarian. Thing was, Chrysler went with the lowest of low bidders when it came to K-car-family components, and the line workers who built the 1,399 Spirit R/Ts in Mexico weren't quite as well-paid as their BMW counterparts.
