Man devoted to finding missing persons - Cape Coral Daily Breeze

The discovery of the remains of a North Fort Myers woman who was missing for 25 years has brought to light the fact that many missing people could be in the water, sometimes for years, with little chance of their remains being discovered. Dan Griffith is with a group called Team Watters Sonar Search and Recov-ery, a non-profit group whose mission is to bring loved ones who are lost in Florida's waterways home to their family and to assist law enforcement agencies in the recovery... The group is based in Illinois, which is where owners Tammy and Dennis Watters reside, but has a team in Florida which includes Griffith and two others from Winter Garden and The Villages. Unlike the man who discovered the remains of Rita Sue Zul in a pond near the Lee County Civic Center with a fishing line and magnet, Griffith said his group uses slightly better technology to perform its job. "We have sonar that we use on our boats as well as a portable unit which is on a remote-control boat that we use in smaller bodies of water," Griffith said. 100 Years Ago. July 23, 1915. As predicted a year ago, the Panama-Pacific exposition is adding materially to the number of transient visitors in Pendleton this summer. It doesn’t need the figures of local garages to prove that there are many more auto parties passing through the city this year than last. Some estimates have it that an average of 15 cars a day pass through Pendleton en route to San Francisco, whereas last year there were only about six strange cars a day through the city. Pendleton hotelmen have had their business increased by this travel but they expect the month of August to bring a bigger increase yet. The trains passing through the city are showing a greater travel, too, as the summer grows older. July 23, 1965. What do you do when you rent the same bed to six different people. This is the kind of problem you can sometimes find yourself facing when your job is to find accommodations for hundreds of people who are coming for the September Round-Up and don’t have a place to stay. This is exactly what the Round-Up office is doing, looking for sleeping accommodations for people who have no place to stay.
