— Back windows that separate from the convertible tops in 2005 Chrysler Crossfire cars won't be investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In 2014, the owner of a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Roadster petitioned NHTSA to open an investigation after the back window separated from the convertible top. Owners complain about back windows hanging from the convertible tops, windows that fall out of the cars and dealerships that won't repair the windows under warranty. This has left Crossfire owners outside of those states writing checks for back window repairs. NHTSA further says that considering agency priorities and resources and the likelihood that an investigation will not result in a defect finding, the petition for investigation is denied. In 2011, Chrysler had extended its warranty on the model for 10 states after a review because it was considered this a “customer satisfaction” issue. An individual who lives outside of these states petitioned NHTSA for an investigation in June 2014. “NHTSA’s review indicates that the separation of the backlite occurs gradually and the glass remains intact and inside the top after failure,”... “Considering the agency priorities and agency resources, and the likelihood that further investigation would not result in a defect finding, NHTSA has concluded that further investigation of the petitioner’s concerns is not warranted,” according... “In 2010, FCA U. S. initiated an investigation into reports of the Chrysler Crossfire backlite separating from the convertible top,” according to NHTSA documents. “In conjunction with an informal inquiry from ODI, FCA U. NHTSA Reviewing 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Extended Warranty - AutoGuide.com

In 2011, the American automaker limited its extended warranty coverage on approximately 15,000 2005 Chrysler Crossfire convertibles that were experiencing issues with rear glass separation. The warranty coverage was limited to vehicles that were originally shipped to warm-weather states, which included Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. SEE ALSO: Feds Close Chrysler Minivan Safety Probe. NHTSA has received 158 complaints from consumers regarding the situation from owners who live outside those warm weather States. Essentially, owners of the vehicle outside the extended warranty states are experiencing rear glass separation issues that are not being covered by the extended warranty. “Owners of the vehicles in the covered states were provided an extended warranty of 10 years or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first,” said NHTSA.
