Deputies: Homeowner fired shots that killed man trying to break into home - KAKE

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office now says the homeowner fired the shots that killed a man who was apparently trying to break into his residence. Cody Reid, 27, of Wichita was shot and killed outside a home in the 7800 block of South Broadway on the afternoon of December 29. The 57-year-old man who lives there originally told deputies that a man had tried to break into his residence through... He then said he heard shots and saw the man laying outside. After the shooting, deputies began searching for Reid's car, as well as a dark-colored sedan the homeowner said left the scene. Sedgwick County Sheriff's Captain Gregory Pollock now said the resident fired the shots that killed Reid. Deputies still believe Reid was trying to break into the home before he was shot. Investigators are still trying to determine if Reid may be connected to previous burglary cases in Haysville, Derby and Andover. Previous story - December 30, 2014:. FATAL CRASH - LEXINGTON PARK: On April 25 at 1:10 a. m. , deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on Pegg Road and Westbury Boulevard. The front seat passenger, identified as Michael Dobbins, age 27, of Lexington Park, was able to get out of the vehicle, however the driver was trapped inside. The preliminary investigation indicated the 1993 Chevrolet Caprice was traveling southbound on Pegg Road when it left the roadway, struck a guardrail on the northbound shoulder, and overturned. Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Team members responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. FATAL CRASH - GREAT MILLS: On April 22 at 5:19 p. m. , deputies, fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to Boothe Farm Lane located off of Flat Iron Road for a serious motor vehicle crash. Deputies located a single vehicle that had crashed into a tree. The driver and sole occupant of the 2000 Chrysler Cirrus, identified as Ashley Lauren Taylor, age 25, of California, was pronounced dead on the scene. Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Unit members responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation indicated Taylor was traveling westbound on Boothe Farm Lane when she lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and struck a tree. Source: somd.com
