Fort Lupton had its beginnings in 1836 as a trading fort along the South Platte River, and it became the first permanent settlement in northern Colorado. That pioneering spirit continued as this city of 8,000 moved out of the economic recession to become the first in Colorado to convert its entire police fleet to run on clean-burning, Colorado-produced compressed natural gas. For years following the economic downturn of 2008, the city of Fort Lupton was unable to purchase any new vehicles. By 2012, city officials knew that replacement vehicles were overdue, especially for the police and public works departments. The question was how to plan for vehicles on a tight budget, and how to meet new goals for more economical, cleaner and greener vehicles. With a CNG fueling station already in place in Fort Lupton at 7984 U. S. 85, installed as part of Weld County’s Smart Energy Plan, city officials looked to CNG-powered vehicles as a possible solution. The Upper Front Range Transportation Planning Region put out a call for a joint regional grant application for federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funds, and Fort Lupton joined in. Crash Test Finds Injury Risk for Ford's New Aluminum F-150 - Bloomberg

In a crash test of Ford Motor Co. ’s new aluminum-bodied F-150 pickup, an extended-cab version suffered damage that presented a risk of serious injury to the driver, the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety said. Ford’s larger SuperCrew F-150, equipped with an extra steel safety structure, passed with low risk of injury. The F-Series pickup is Ford’s top-selling and most profitable model and is the first mass-market vehicle with an all-aluminum body. General Motors Co. , which sells steel-body pickups, has attacked Ford’s truck in ads depicting consumers selecting the safety of steel over aluminum. “Ford added structural elements to the crew cab’s front frame to earn a good small overlap rating and a Top Safety Pick award, but didn’t do the same for the extended cab,” David Zuby, IIHS’s chief researcher, said in a statement Thursday. “That shortchanges buyers who might pick the extended cab thinking it offers the same protection in this type of crash as the crew cab. An escaped inmate suspected of strangling an acquaintance and stealing a gun and two trucks while on the run led police on a chase and rammed a cruiser before being captured Friday, authorities said. State troopers took Robert Crissman into custody about 26 hours after authorities said he walked away from a work-release program at a jail about 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, where he was serving time for a probation violation. ” He said Crissman’s quick capture was a testament to good police work and strong cooperation from the public.
