EDITOR WES RAYNAL: If there's a smoother and quieter full-size pickup on the market I'd like to drive it. Until that happens, this 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT is it. Call me a GM truck slappy (many have) but I just loved this thing. The ride was smooth and well-controlled with no unsprung weight causing the truck to jump around over road imperfections. there was no secondary wiggling through the structure like the outgoing model. There's good power from the V8 and when you boot it, the thing gets right down the road. ASSOCIATE EDITOR JAKE LINGEMAN: Wes, you are a GM truck slappy. I did think it was a little bouncy, even for an unloaded truck. When I was cruising at a good clip through an expressway interchange, I felt a little wiggling, and the tires made some noises that I didn't feel they should make at that medium speed. I'm not really a fan of how the power comes on in the Sierra/Silverado family. I'm assuming it's tuned for fuel economy, but it seems like to get any power you have to put the pedal down at least half way. That could also be a function of the six-speed transmission not kicking down soon enough for my liking. I do like that it can slip into four-cylinder mode when cruising on the expressway.
