Ford’s updated Expedition still trails GM’s offerings. DIGITAL EDITOR ANDREW STOY: This latest 2015 Expedition feels like a half-hearted effort on the part of Ford -- it’s like they decided not to abandon the full-size SUV market, but they also didn’t want to divert a lot of resources into a refresh. Likewise the front end gets a handful of angles added in, but park it beside a 2008 Expedition and you’ll find a lot more similarities than you will differences. Not unlike the McMansions in whose garages most Expeditions live, everything inside looks nice at first glance, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find bargain-basement materials. Door panels and door tops front and rear get the same treatment, one that's completely unsuited to a $50K+ SUV. Ford is capable of far better, amply demonstrated by the Fusion, Escape and even Transit Connect -- why they chose to cheap out on the Expedition is a mystery. There’s plenty of power to move the huge Expedition around, but don't get fooled by the “Eco” part of EcoBoost: Even with very conservative driving and a long stretch of interstate travel, I was unable to top 16 mpg combined. A cargo ship carrying a load of new cars out of Southampton has run aground in the English Channel in between England and the Isle of Wight. The vessel apparently suffered some sort of failure just 45 minutes after leaving port that caused it to list heavily to the starboard side before the crew deliberately beached it on Bramble Bank to prevent the ship from capsizing altogether. Although several automakers (including Honda and Bentley ) were reportedly looking into whether they had cars on board, the vessel is said to have been filled to approximately one-third its capacity, with 1,400 vehicles on board – including 1,200... The crew was mostly airlifted by helicopter off of the beached ship, with two crew members evacuated by lifeboat. An early attempt to free the ship with tugboats failed, meaning that the Maritime and Coastguard Agency may have to wait until more favorable high tides to try again before towing the ship back into the port. Bramble Bank, where the vessel was run aground, is a well-known obstacle to maritime navigators. The Queen Elizabeth 2 ran aground there in November 2008 with 1,700 passengers on board,. 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Review - autoevolution

Just as minivans were responsible for the drastic decline of station wagons in the late 1980s and early ‘90s, car-based SUVs came on very strong in the late ‘90s, and they practically finished off whatever wagons remained and gave the minivan... Over the last decade, automakers have either dropped their small and mid-size trucks or just let them flail in obscurity. But on the opposite end of that coin, modern full-size trucks have grown to gargantuan dimensions (and price points) in recent years, which would make a new breed of mid-size pickups even better. The good news for buyers is that the floodgates are about to open in the mid-size truck market and that all began late last year with the introduction of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon. It’s commendable the work that Toyota and Nissan have done to keep their aging small trucks relevant mainly through the use of styling and off-road performance packages, but GM’s truck duo has set the tone for this market moving forward. As fate would have it, I recently had the chance to spend time with both versions of this truck: a two-wheel-drive 2015 GMC Canyon SLT Crew Cab with a long cargo box and a four-wheel-drive 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Crew Cab with a short box.
