A Bakersfield woman who stabbed her boyfriend to death in May of last year was sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison Thursday. Connie Jean Vaughn, 49, pleaded no contest May 1 to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 53-year-old Dwayne Lewis. Lewis died about three hours after Vaughn stabbed him at 6:40 p. m. May 18 in a residence in the 1000 block of 33rd Street, police have said. Vaughn was originally charged with murder, but accepted a plea deal in which she pleaded no contest to the manslaughter charge and resisting an officer. An 8-month-old boy rolled down a hill in his stroller and continued 100 yards to the base of the bluffs on Panorama Drive Wednesday evening. Police said the child’s mother, father, 10-year-old sister and 6-year-old sister were walking on the bluffs. The 10-year-old was pushing the boy in a stroller and the mother and father were following about 15 to 20 feet behind. When the 10-year-old arrived at the family’s car, she set the wheel brake on the stroller and left the boy strapped in while she checked to see if the car doors were locked. The stroller began rolling, and the father chased but was unable to catch up to it until he and the stroller reached the bottom of the bluffs, police said. Source: www.bakersfield.com
