County seeks door-to-door driveway scammer - Tidewater News

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office has summons outstanding for David Lee Newell III, 32, of Suffolk, for failure to obtain a business license in connection with his overcharging for gravel driveway repairs within Southampton and Isle of Wight... Newell, who drives a 1991 Ford F-250 with Virginia registration VFY 3035, has been accompanied by several other individuals when he tells prospective customers that he has gravel left over from another job. Newell was sentenced to two years in prison, had his license revoked for 60 days, paid $963 in various fines and court costs, but served no jail time when the sentence was suspended. Again, Newell served no jail time, but paid more than $2,845 in court costs and fines and was placed on eight years probation. As recently as May 7, Newell was charged with driving without a license when he was pulled over for traveling 50 miles per hour in a designated 35 mile per hour area, to which he paid $286 in various fines and court costs. Drewery said that if you are contacted by Newell or someone offering to do similar work, you should refuse the offer and contact their office at 653-2100. Family Grieves Loss of 3 Brothers Killed in Sutter County DUI Crash - FOX40

SUTTER COUNTY- A family is grieving the loss of three brothers killed in a head-on DUI crash. The crash happened about 3:45 p. m. Saturday on State Road 113 near Schlagle Road. Flores said 21-year-old Carlos Blanco, 19-year-old Antonio Blanco, and 15-year-old Lucas Blanco were riding in their 1991 Honda Accord on State Road 113, when Michael Allan Jones slammed his 2007 Ford F-250 into them. “I heard a loud boom, and my dad called 911, the car was smoking, and within a minute, maybe, it burst into flames,” Christy said. Passers-by like George Smith immediately jumped out of their cars to help. “One of the gentlemen was a volunteer fireman, and he actually started watering down the car, and I was on the other side trying to use a fire extinguisher, but it just didn’t work,” Smith said. Smith said a woman threw him a fire extinguisher to battle the flames, but it was too small, and too late. I can feel my facial hair… it was about to melt,” Smith said. California Highway Patrol said Jones, 38, of Oroville, lost control of his truck, veered onto the wrong side of the road, and struck the Blancos’ car, flipping it. The brothers were pinned underneath the burning car. “The mother and grandmother showed up, and as soon as the mother found out, she just straight up passed out right there,” Smith said.
