For 75 years, it's been a McDonald's world. We're just eating in it. On May 15, 1940, McDonald's Bar-B-Q restaurant opened its doors — well, its drive-in stalls — in San Bernardino, Calif. Now, it wasn't the golden-arched global dynamo it is today, but it was the restaurant that helped start it all. (A more recognizable restaurant opened in 1955 in Des Plaines, Ill. And McDonald's wasn't going to let any of those hungry mouths go unsatisfied. As a result, its menu added all types of deliciousness — and some not-so-deliciousness — through the years. The City Express continues the tradition that began in 1936 with the Chevrolet Canopy Express vehicle with roll-up canvas sides that allows street vendors used to sell flowers, food and other products from the back. It made the vehicle distinctive for Chevrolet, making it stand apart from its own version, the NV200. Both were meant to go up against Ford's small Transit Connect. The City Express is a smaller fuel efficient (24 miles per gallon in the city) van that carries a base price of $22,950. Chevy sold 2,033,442 vehicles in 2014 with 7% of its vehicles directly tied to small business. Chevy also has a presence at the upcoming Small Business Expo in Dallas on May 14 and New York City on June 4. The 1950 General Motors Futurliner tour bus, a brawny piece of modern sculpture on wheels, was the best-known of the 140 vehicles from the Ron Pratte collection that crossed the block during the Scottsdale auction, and it was selling for a worthy... But that wasn’t all – auction president Steve Davis cajoled a number of Barrett-Jackson’s well-heeled regulars into donating even more to the military foundation for a total of $600,000 in addition to the sale. This grand piece of theater was the crowning moment of the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, the culmination of months of promotion and conjecture, and the packed house of people roared with delight and patriotic fervor. That would be the 1966 Shelby Cobra Super Snake, the late Carroll Shelby’s own Cobra that boasts a twin-supercharged 427-cubic-inch V8. It sold after it left the stage for $5. 115 million (all results include the buyer’s fee), which was the... “This is the best 427 Cobra on the planet, bar none,” auction company CEO Craig Jackson told the crowd during the bidding.
