Search warrant: Prescription drugs, canisters of compressed gas found in car ... - Sun Sentinel

Shortly before 11 a. m. June 23, Figueras-Pino and Rafael Rodriguez, 58, stopped their car hauler in the 400 block of South Dixie Highway to deliver a vehicle to a business. After lowering the rear ramp and unloading a vehicle from the lower deck, Figueras-Pino stood inside the back of the trailer unchaining a vehicle from the upper deck, the warrant said. At the same time, a red 2015 Hyundai Accent driven by Stein was heading north on South Dixie Highway in the right lane. Stein drove up the ramp and struck Figueras-Pino with the front bumper of the car, the warrant said. Figueras-Pino went through the windshield of the car, which had become wedged between the upper and lower decks of the trailer. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue took Figueras-Pino to Broward Health North, where he died. Detectives at the scene saw bottles of prescription medication and canisters of compressed gas in the Hyundai. When asked about the crash, Stein told the detectives he was diabetic and had become dizzy and blacked out while driving, the warrant said. Stein also told detectives he would use the gas canisters to get high and that he thought the semi truck had been moving, the warrant said. Source: www.sun-sentinel.com
