Extra patrols focused on the Benton County Fair & Rodeo netted two arrests for drunken driving, one for reckless driving and one for car theft along with four traffic citations, according to a tally released Monday by the Benton County Sheriff’s... Shortly after 11 p. m. on July 30, Deputy Aaron Gevatosky was working the fair detail when he stopped to help Philomath Police Officer Matt Moser with a traffic stop. According to the Sheriff’s Office report on the incident, a passenger jumped out of the blue 2006 Hyundai Tucson and fled on foot while the driver took off at a high rate of speed. Gevatosky and Moser gave chase in their patrol vehicles and were joined by other sheriff’s deputies and Corvallis police officers. The Hyundai headed west on Highway 34, reportedly hitting speeds of up to 110 mph before doubling back to the highway via side roads and returning to Philomath. The Sheriff’s Office conducted saturation patrols in the vicinity of the fairgrounds from July 29 through Aug. Saturation patrols like the ones during the fair are performed by deputies working overtime shifts, Ridler said. The Sheriff’s Office will conduct DUII saturation patrols from Aug.
