David Adams can tell you the exact moment the car changed his life. The Jaguar wasn't for sale, but a fellow student knew of one just like it, in better shape, that the owner wanted to get rid of. "I borrowed $200 from a buddy for the down payment and my parents helped me get the financing for the rest," he says. "It cost $700. ". "In 1971 it wasn't a classic," he says. "It was just a used car. On Sunday, that same 1953 Jaguar XK120 sat in the shade of the towering trees at Pacific University, surrounded by about 150 other cars displayed as part of the Forest Grove Rotary Club's annual Concours d'Elegance. Allen Stephens, chair of the annual Rotary event, mused that Sunday's gathering was among the best in recent years. "We are trying to add more variety," he said, explaining the club is hoping to broaden the event's appeal. This year the Concours hosted about 50 cars from the Classic Car Club of America, which brought a variety of Packards, Pierce-Arrows, Cadillacs and La Salles.
