Jaguar S-Type R used car review - Drive
After years in the wilderness, Jaguar , under Ford's stewardship, really hit back in the early part of this century. Drawing on Ford's global platforms, the Jaguar brand was able to introduce a competitor to BMW's 3-series called the X-Type as well as a retro-styled BMW 5-series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class rival dubbed the S-Type. And within the S-Type was a halo model that showed Jaguar really was a force in that market segment once more. We refer, of course, to the S-Type R , a true road-burner that ran the ball right back up the field to the likes of BMW's M5 and Benz's E55 AMG. Power was an absolutely competitive – for the day - 298kW and with huge Brembo brakes, monster wheels and tyres and details like a body-coloured grille and subtle body-kit, the S-Type R was the full nine yards. It went like it, too, with an amazing surge of power from the supercharged V8 and the silky six-speed auto doing its best to make the prodigious acceleration feel seamless. So what do you need to know when shopping for a second-hand S-Type R Jaguar. Source: www.drive.com.au
