Tour d'Elegance creates stunning scene in Big Sur - KSBW The Central Coast

The Tour d'Elegance is a drive that invites all of the entries in Sunday's Concours d'Elegance to take a drive together, along 17 Mile Drive, through Carmel Valley, to Big Sur on Highway 1 and back into downtown Carmel. The event brings together not only top notch cars but also all of the people who know about them, which is why Bob Lorkowski and his team brought a 1929 DuPont convertible to the show. Lorkowski said this year the Concours is featuring DuPonts and the one his team restored for a client had a bit of a mystery to solve, they wanted to confirm who the original owner was. Lorkowski said because DuPont is a 2015 featured Marques at the event, there are some DuPont experts in town. The cars are rare, out of the hundreds that were made in the 1920s and 30s only 30 are around today, and there is only one other car in the world like Lorkowski brought to Pebble Beach from the Midwest. Lorkowski and his team had a hunch about who first bought the car, and after consulting a Dupont expert they confirmed their theory. "We know from the factory records who bought the car brand new, and the man who bought the car brand new was Nick Lucas, and he lived in Newark, two DuPonts, which were very expensive cars at the time.
