Quite a few criminals end up escaping arrest because police officers say they have one small problem – being forced respond to 999 calls in cars without sirens. The West Midlands Police Federation said it was aware of about 100 occasions in the last year when “lights-only” Vauxhall Corsas were used as response vehicles in place of the more powerful Insignia. However, in the recent years there have been other high-spec response cars (apart from Insignia) – where a few officers have driven the likes of Jaguar XF and Lotus Evora along with a few other high-speed cars like Mitsubishi Evos and BMW 335s.
