Coventry Fire District may still have hope - WPRI 12 Eyewitness News

COVENTRY, R. I. (WPRI) — Residents and town officials were looking for ways to keep the Coventry Fire District alive in Tuesday’s meeting. While, the fire board believes making cuts and reorganizing their finances may be the way to go. “Tonight’s been a little different than a lot of the other meetings,” said Firefighter Union President Dave Gorman. “There’s a lot of support for the fire department, fire fighters in general. A lot of people even shaking our hands on the way out the door tonight, so I feel a little bit more upbeat tonight than I have in the past. But the vote was non-binding and only 12 percent of taxpayers participated in the vote. Union President Dave Gorman said they have talked about working without pay, but a decision has yet to be made.
