— A 27-year-old woman and a 2-month old baby were killed Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash near Borrego Springs. The woman, a Borrego Springs resident, was driving a 2013 Volkswagen CC sedan southbound on Borrego Springs Road south of San Pablo Road. A 51-year-old woman, also from Borrego Springs, was in the front passenger seat, and the baby boy was in the back seat in a correctly installed, rear-facing car seat, investigators said. Meanwhile, a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 61-year-old man approached the Volkswagen going about 55 mph on southbound on the same road. The VW driver apparently did not see the pickup and pulled back into traffic to make a U-turn. The other woman in the car suffered moderate injuries and the pickup driver had minor injuries.
