Fleeing motorist faces drug and other charges in Van Buren County - MLive.com

VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI – An attempt at a minor traffic stop resulted in a car chase, a car crash and a trunkload of drug and driving charges Saturday evening in Van Buren County . A 42-year-old Kalamazoo area man was jailed and will face charges. In a press release, Van Buren County Sheriff Dale R. Gribler stated that at about 7:30 p. m. Saturday, Deputy Randy Whitmore tried to stop a vehicle on 67th Avenue near 60th Street for failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Deputies reported that they searched the vehicle, a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and found a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and components typically used to make methamphetamine. Officers reported that the suspect was released from the hospital and then taken into custody to face charges of fleeing and eluding police and felony possession of marijuana, as well as five outstanding arrest warrants. The driver was lodged at the Van Buren County Jail and deputies said they planned to have the Van Buren County Prosecutor's Office review the case for possible additional criminal charges. Those include possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine laboratory components, possession of cocaine, driving while license is suspended and operating while intoxicated.
