Police observed a black Ford Taurus with a blown out right front passenger tire heading north on St. George Avenue, passing Woodbridge High School, police said. After activating his lights and siren, the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which continued onto Route 1 North into Rahway. The remaining rubber on the front tire feel off and the vehicle continued riding on the rim only. At the intersection of Route 1 North and East Milton Street in Rahway, the vehicle crashed into a line of cars stopped at a red light. As officers approached the vehicle, it began smoking. The driver was removed from the vehicle, placed under arrest and taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He was issued numerous motor vehicle violations, including DWI, driving while suspended, reckless driving, failure to observe traffic signal, failure to maintain a lane, failure to signal, improper passing, speeding and unsafe vehicle. Rahway police conducted the crash investigation. Patrolman Kevin Schroeck was patrolling the area of Hampshire Drive when he observed a black 2010 Cadillac SUV fail to maintain its lane, police said. The vehicle was stopped and it was determined that township resident Stephen G. Murray, 50, had an active traffic warrant out of South Brunswick with a bail amount of $195.
