- Troopers from the Hagerstown barracks of Maryland State Police are investigating a deadly wrong-way accident that occurred on Interstate-70 Eastbound in Hancock early Tuesday morning. The crash killed two people and severely injured one, while shutting down the highway's eastbound lanes for nearly 12 hours. Troopers said a 2007 Kia Rio was traveling westbound in an eastbound lane near mile marker 3, before colliding with a tractor trailer shortly after 2:15 a. m. The driver of the sedan, Kim Benge, 57, of Fruitland, Md. , was flown to R. Adams Cowley... Robert Fraley of Maryland State Police said the Rio collided head-on with the tractor trailer, which was hauling grapes. "You don't want to see them not make it home to their loved ones - and you know, it's always in the back of your mind when you head out there to the scene. The State Highway Administration said the road was re-opened at about 1:30 p. m. on Tuesday, more than 11 hours following the crash.
