Jaguar said its new F-Pace will offer driving dynamics "unlike anything else in the segment" as the UK sports car maker takes aim at the Porsche Macan and BMW X4 with its first SUV-styled crossover. The F-Pace is set to become one of Jaguar’s two best-selling models alongside the XE midsize sedan after it joins the booming SUV/crossover segment next year. In a statement Jaguar was keen to emphasize that the crossover's performance will be in keeping with the brand's sports car heritage. "We haven't made any compromises or exceptions: the new F-Pace had to be a true Jaguar and had to deliver the [brand's] dynamics DNA," Mike Cross, Jaguar's chief engineer of vehicle integrity, said in the statement. The F-Pace uses an electric power-assisted steering system combined with the torque vectoring technology first developed for F-Type sports car and a torque on-demand all-wheel drive system. The F-Pace is underpinned by Jaguar’s new lightweight aluminum architecture also used by the XE and XF sedans.
