Poole is frontrunner to become chair of Maryland Democratic Party - Herald-Mail Media

The executive committee of the Democratic Party is scheduled to meet Thursday at the Loews Annapolis Hotel to decide on a new interim chairman. Although four people are in the running, House Speaker Michael Busch, D-Anne Arundel, said Poole was the front-runner to lead the party. The announcement came only months after a weak showing in the November election by Maryland Democrats, including the race for Maryland governor in which Democratic candidate Lt. Gov. Busch said Poole is engaged and active in state politics. “He understands the state and understands the importance of promoting the Democratic Party,” he said. “He is a natural leader and outstanding pick if the central committees and the executive committee choose to go forward with him. When asked what Poole could do to reinvigorate the Democratic Party in Maryland, Busch said that he “could bridge the gap between our generation and the youngsters coming up…. I think he will be a breath of fresh air. Poole has served on several state boards and commissions, including the State Ethics Commission and the board of directors of the University of Maryland Medical System Corp. State Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, D-Calvert/Charles/Prince George’s, said Poole “has been a great leader on so many issues. Source: www.heraldmailmedia.com
