Video: Lexus finally reveals their highly-teased hoverboard–and what a tease ... - eGMCarTech
Lexus had us all excited about what seemed to be the first true attempt at a hoverboard using technology and witchcraft. But Lexus had us sitting on our toes and finally, the beans have been spilled. But like other hoverboard attempts in the past, there are some catches–some major catches. For one, Lexus had to specially build an entire skatepark with an integrated magnetic track–up to 200 meters worth. In order to get the hoverboard to work, the one made by Lexus and developed with IFW Dresden and evico GmbH, utilizes special superconductors cooled with liquid nitrogen. At that point, the superconductors are used to create a super-strong magnetic field and the extreme cold temperatures force the superconductors to then “memorize” a fixed distance. Like we said, it works, but not to the extent as we had hoped, like with the one portrayed in Back to the Future II. Either way, it’s interesting to watch it work in action. ———————————.
