1994 Bathurst 12-hour winning Mazda RX-7 - Drive

I'm about to take it around Sydney Motorsport Park among a fleet of other icons of my youth - an ex-Allan Moffat Mazda RX-7 touring car, an ex-Colin Bond Ford Sierra Cosworth, a Ford Escort Mark II, a Toyota Supra Group A racer and a Lancia 037... The car I'm in is the 1994 Bathurst 12-hour winning Mazda RX-7 that completed a hat-trick of wins in the once-round-the-clock endurance race at Mount Panorama. Mazda recently pulled it out and dusted it off to get it track-ready again as part of plan to create a collection of its motorsport and notable road cars at its new Melbourne headquarters. Mazda is giving me the chance to drive it, alongside the previous mentioned company, as part of the Turbo Legends parade at the annual World Time Attack event around Eastern Creek. I'll only get a couple of laps once Doc Brown and Marty McFly leave the track but it will be enough to get a taste of one of Mazda's most legendary cars. Despite driving countless cars during my career I've never crossed paths with an RX-7 before. Given 'when are you bringing back the RX-7. ' is typically the first question journalists ask anyone from Mazda, it will be great to get an idea if the car is worthy of its reputation. Source: www.drive.com.au
