Mazda Discontinues Mazda5 for model-year 2016 - Motor Trend
While Mazda continues to expand its model lineup with new editions like the 2016 CX-3 subcompact crossover, it's hard to justify keeping aging models around that continue to decline in sales. For the 2016 model year, Mazda has made the decision to discontinue the Mazda5, and as of now, there are no plans to bring a replacement to the U. S. market. Last month's sales figures showed that the Mazda5 minivan's sales were down by 64. 4 percent compared to the previous year. The automaker only sold 551 units, which is 996 less than July of 2014. For the year, sales are down 22 percent, and yearly sales so far are less than 2014 by nearly 2,000 units. While June 2015 sales were up compared to the previous year, it's not enough to keep this model afloat. We drove the 2014 Mazda5 Sport , and noted that if it didn't change with the times, it wouldn't be long until it was discontinued like the rest of its closest competition back in the hey-day of proto-minivans.
