Global Water, the primary water provider in Maricopa, sent letters to customers last week explaining the situation. “Our water system recently violated a drinking water standard,” the letter states. “Each month, our company acquires 50 samples within our distribution system that are analyzed from the presence of total coliform bacteria. Three of the 50 samples analyzed in our water system indicated the presence of total coliform bacteria. They all felt strongly that contaminated water was the likely reason, due to when the tainted water samples were discovered by Global, which was June 8. All nine samples came back “absent for total coliform. However, Daniel Czecholinski, drinking water section manager for the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, said Global followed the letter of the law by retesting samples to achieve compliance with federal regulations. Kim McKeller, who lives in The Villages at Rancho El Dorado, said she’s been sick since the beginning of June. McKeller said she very rarely becomes ill and added she’s never been this sick.
