Man to sell convertible converted to look like a Corvette - Fremont Tribune
Fifty-five years ago, Omer Troester caught the Corvette fever. Years passed and his dream of owning one of the red sports cars faded. So Troester took matters — and a pencil — into his own hands, drawing patterns to make another car look like a Corvette. You might call it a Miata makeover. Buyers and browsers at the event will see what Troester calls his “1957/2004 Miata-Vet. Troester traces his converted convertible to an idea he had years ago. “I owned a 1997 yellow Miata for five years. Then he came up with the idea and, using poster paper, made patterns to make a new 2004 red Miata MX-5 look like a 1957 Corvette — only a smaller version. Troester said he took the patterns to Matt Hoschiet’s body shop, where the work was done. “We had to try and come up with the trim around the grill and around the white cove (on the side),” Troester said. After that, Troester took the car to shows in Nebraska, Iowa and Texas. “I got eight, first place trophies with it, one second place and one People’s Choice,” he said. Source: fremonttribune.com
