Area theatergoers are familiar with the beauty and historic grandeur of the Morris Performing Arts Center, especially since its multimillion-dollar restoration in 2000. But it’s always nice to get appreciation from afar. The national League of Historic American Theaters has awarded the Morris the 2015 Historic Theater Award. The South Bend venue is in good company, with the New York City Center and Fabulous Fox in Atlanta having received the prestigious honor in previous years. The honor was given in part thanks to the renovations that polished the gem then-known as the Morris Civic Auditorium, which originally opened as the Place Theater in 1922.
