2012 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Review - MotorTrend Magazine

As Mercedes-Benz's flagship sedan, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz S-Class serves as a showcase for the German automaker's most innovative technology and safety features -- all while exuding a high style profile befitting its luxury mission. The S-Class is offered with dizzying array of advanced powertrain options, from hybrid and diesel offerings to fire-breathing, AMG-built engines with lightning quick transmissions. For the 2012 model year S-Class, Benz has added two new engines, a 3. 0-liter Bluetec diesel V-6 (240 hp, 455 lb-ft) -- the first diesel S-Class for the U. S. market since 1996 -- and Benz's new direct-injected, twin-turbo 4. 7-liter V-8 with 429... The remaining engine combos powering the S400 Hybrid, S600, S63 AMG, and S65 AMG all carry over unchanged for the 2012 S-Class model year. Most S-Class models are equipped with Benz's seven-speed automatic designed to further optimize mpgs in most situations. Styling and options are also essentially untouched for the 2012 S-Class, although Benz is now offering a number of wheel and exterior trim choices depending on S-Class model. And with an EPA rating of 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, it's also one of the most fuel efficient S-Classes ever to be offered by Mercedes-Benz. Source: www.motortrend.com
