“Clemson should be grateful” — Past, present Tigers support Jack Leggett - Charleston Post Courier

Imagine being a high school star in a sport, any sport, and being courted by a legendary figure in that sport to take those talents to the next level on a college scholarship. Then imagine pouring blood, sweat and tears into your new team every day for multiple years, nurtured and defended by this legendary coach through thick and thin, through achievement and failure. And imagine pretty much everybody outside the program wishing that coach would lose his job. That Clemson baseball players are rallying behind their coach, Jack Leggett, isn't just expected, it's standard protocol. Two former Clemson players currently on Major League Baseball active rosters, reached by The Post and Courier this week, are saddened by the program's downfall and even more so by the end of Leggett's 22-year tenure Thursday. Ben Paulsen (2007-09), a second-year Colorado Rockies first baseman/outfielder, remembers when he was 12 years old playing a youth tournament in Omaha in 2002, and watched Baker, Khalil Greene and Michael Johnson lead the Tigers to the fourth of... “Seeing those white cleats in Omaha, and the thick eyeblack, I can still imagine that today,” Paulsen said.
