De La Hoya (11-0, 7 KOs) faces Jesus Ruiz (34-6-5, 23 KOs) for the vacant WBC Youth title in the super bantamweight division. It’s a dangerous fight for De La Hoya, the cousin of Golden Boy president Oscar De La Hoya. Ruiz recently fought for the world title in January against Leo Santa Cruz, who is now the WBA featherweight world champion. Downtown L. A. is quickly changing today with new condos being erected rapidly all around to accommodate the new crush for urban lifestyle. Who knows how long the Belasco Theater and its neighbor, the Mayan Theater, will remain. But fight cards in the area remain a strong tether to L. A. ’s historical past. • Shane Mosley’s knockout of rugged Ricardo Mayorga was one-sided. Allegedly his mouthpiece broke early in the fight and he fought on. But while the fight lasted fans were excited by the Nicaraguan’s bravado as he continually dared Mosley to hit him on the chin. It was a Mosley body shot that ended the fight. “I was getting a little discouraged,” Mosley said. 12 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas.
