Opportunistic vehicle thieves sweep Kingsport - Kingsport Times News

Three people were easy targets and unwitting collaborators in a Thursday crime spree in Kingsport, as a trio of vehicles — all with unlocked doors and keys in the ignition — were reported stolen over a period of 10 hours. According to records at the Kingsport Police Department, the first theft was reported at 2 p. m. A man told officers that he had parked his red, 1997 Jeep Cherokee in the front yard of his mother's home on Inglewood Drive, adding that he knew it... The victim stated that his silver and black 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse had been parked outside the home less than an hour earlier, but when he returned it was gone. Keys were not only left in the ignition, but the windows had been left down. Again, key were inside the vehicle and the doors were unlocked. As of Friday morning, Kingsport police were continuing to investigate the incidents, with none of the vehicles located. "In the vast majority of motor vehicle thefts reported to the Kingsport Police Department, the doors had been left unlocked and the keys had been left in the ignition," said KPD Public.
