A search warrant affidavit filed June 11 by police investigating the June 9 death of Roland Vilett details about what the people involved told police about what happened that afternoon on Mathews Road. - Vincente Sanchez got out of school at lunch June 9 and caught a ride with Jonathon Roman Delgado in a 2014 Chevy Camaro. Gomez had taken his father's red 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT without permission. The teens decided to go race the cars on Mathews Road, a straightaway off Highway 58 south of Springfield. Margaret Mary Moch saw the cars race eastbound on Mathews Road as she went to get the mail. As the Camaro and Mitsubishi passed her, she saw them collide. In the second race, the Mitsubishi was in front at 90 mph when Lopez saw the Camaro pull past them. The Mitsubishi hit the Camaro, which began to spin clockwise. Lopez told police the Camaro must have hit someone because he saw a man flying through the air. After the Mitsubishi hit the Camaro, Delgado lost control as the car spun clockwise.
