2015 Lancer Evolution's a spartan rocket - Boston Herald

It is Mitsubishi’s swan song for its shiny speedster. Like its predecessors, the Evolution is part economy sedan and part turbocharged rocket. The time to act is now if you want one of these “Evos,” as Mitsubishi will stop manufacturing this model in favor of a high-performance SUV. It seems that keeping it light but well-powered is the secret to the Evolution’s success. Mitsubishi uses an aluminum block and aluminum cylinder heads, aluminum sport pedals, aluminum front fenders and an aluminum hood to help keep the weight down on this model. The most exciting part about driving this car is the rollercoaster fifth gear on the highway. Without shifting, you can run the gamut in lightspeed from 50 to 90 mph (on a closed course, of course). 761 gear ratio in fifth gear makes the Evo a howl to drive on the highway. Mitsubishi calls it “super all-wheel control” and that it is. Adding to the fun is a power- assisted steering system. The handling performs well thanks to active yaw control and the braking has incredible stopping power thanks to a Brembo braking system. Source: www.bostonherald.com
