Nissan Murano takes top spot in latest SUV crash tests - Fox 59

(May 12, 2015) – The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has crash tested a new round of SUVs in a small front overlap collision. This impacts the front driver-side corner of the car, presenting major problems for the driver. “A car came into my lane and struck my vehicle,” said Hollyn Mangione. In 2011, Mangione was in a front overlap collision. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested a new round of small SUVs, like Mangione’s, in front overlap collisions. The Top Safety Picks included the 2015 Nissan Murano and Ford Flex. The Dodge Durango, Jeep Cherokee, and Hyundai Santa Fe got marginal ratings, and the Dodge Journey came in last and ranked poor. “Occupant compartment collapsed around the driver, we measured high forced on the left leg,” explained David Zuby of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, about the Dodge Journey’s crash results. With a lot of improvements left to be made, safety experts are concerned with the vehicles that don’t make the grade, “We think that a number of people experiencing a similar crash will suffer serious and possibly fatal injuries,” said Zuby. According to safety experts, a small front overlap is one of the most common types of crashes. Source: fox59.com
