sheriff: Beware of police impersonators - TCPalm

MARTIN COUNTY — Sheriff William Snyder is urging residents to use caution during traffic stops after an incident last week involving men impersonating law enforcement officers. A burgundy newer model Nissan Maxima with red and blue dash lights tried to make a traffic stop on a woman driving a Mercedes in the area of High Meadow Avenue in Palm City about 5:10 a. m. Aug. The car had lights on the front only, he said, but all sheriff's vehicles also have lights on the back. A passer-by who had law enforcement experience saw the traffic stop and called 911, Snyder said. The passer-by stopped near the incident and scared off the impersonators, who drove away at a high rate of speed toward Interstate 95. The driver of the car that made the traffic stop was described as a black man in his early 20s with a large... Snyder advised drivers to look and make sure a marked law enforcement vehicle is pulling them over. Anyone with information about last week's incident should call sheriff's Detective Drew Patterson at 772-220-7075 or email him at dspatterson@sheriff. Source: www.tcpalm.com
