Man killed, niece critically injured in I-440 crash - WSMV Nashville

Metro police have identified the man killed in a crash on Interstate 440 on Wednesday as 49-year-old Hussain Al-Sarhan. Al-Sarhan's three daughters, two nieces and nephew were in the van with him at the time of the crash. Police said Al-Sarhan was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette van when he was hit head-on by a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder near Interstate 65 around 4 p. m. Wednesday. The driver of the Nissan, 22-year-old Adam Cogdal, said he was in the westbound lanes when another car came into his lane, causing him to swerve to avoid getting hit. Cogdal's vehicle then went over the grass median and into the eastbound lanes, hitting Al-Sarhan's van. Al-Sarhan's niece, 11-year-old Zeinab, was in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center but has been upgraded to stable condition. Russell Cook lives next door to Al-Sarhan and his family. Cook said he has already helped the family when their rabbit got loose. “When I took the rabbit back, the mother just said, ‘Thank you, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, thank you,’” Cook said. “Metro police came up. He knocked on my door, wanted to know if I knew the neighbors,” Cook said. No charges have been filed at this time, but police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing. Source: www.wsmv.com
