Weekend proves deadly on highways - Anderson Independent Mail
On Sunday afternoon, 70-year-old Peggy Barker of Anderson died after being in an accident near S. C. 28 Bypass and McGee Road, according to the county coroner’s office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Tony Keller of the Highway Patrol said Barker was driving south and was attempting to turn left onto McGee Road in Anderson about noon Sunday when she wrecked. Keller said Barker failed to yield and turned in front of a car driven by 29-year-old Ryan Altenburger of Anderson. Deputy Anderson County Coroner Don McCown said Barker was taken to AnMed Health Medical Center, where she later died of her injuries. On Saturday night, an Easley man was killed in a crash shortly after leaving a cookout at his brother’s home, McCown said. Christopher Treadway, 47, was killed on Massey Road in Anderson County shortly after 9 p. m. Keller said Treadway was driving a Nissan when it ran off the road, struck some trees and overturned. In Pickens County on Saturday night, a motorcyclist was killed when a deer ran out in front of him, investigators said. David Owens of Seneca was killed in an accident south of the city on Strawberry Farm Road. Owens’ 1992 Ford was headed south when it crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound pickup,.
