Topeka woman killed in head-on crash on Oakland Expressway near US-24 highway ... - Topeka Capital Journal
A 50-year-old Topeka woman was killed and two more people were injured Tuesday afternoon in a head-on, two-vehicle crash on the Oakland Expressway. Kansas Highway Patrol Master Trooper Bryce Whelpley said the crash was reported about 2:20 p. m. Tuesday in the southbound lane on the Oakland Expressway (K-4 highway), just north of N. E. Seward Ave. Jefferson Connor King, 16, of Tecumseh, was southbound on K-4 driving a 2002 Nissan Xterra. Bowers’ vehicle went left of center, crossed into the southbound lane and struck the Xterra head-on, a Kansas Highway Patrol online crash log states. Bowers was declared dead at the scene, Whelpley said. King and an occupant in his SUV, 21-year-old Jayme A. King, of Tecumseh were taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center for treatment of their injuries. Both lanes of traffic on K-4 just south of US-24 were closed to traffic to N. E. Seward Avenue. Personnel with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, Soldier Township Fire Department and American Medical Response were on scene.
