Steve McQueen's Porsche 911 Turbo just sold for $1.95 million - Autoweek

1976 Turbo Carrera was one of the last cars the legendary actor bought new. We believe we've just seen an auction price record set for a stock Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera that'll hold for a long time, though it shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone. The Porsche 930 in question was owned by Steve McQueen , and over the weekend the car that belonged to the King of Cool brought $1. 95 million at the Mecum Auctions sale in Monterey on Saturday. The legendary actor was long known as a gearhead long before he purchased this 930 Turbo, chassis 9306800408, just four years before his death. The car was special ordered though Bob Smith Porsche in Hollywood with features like dual mirrors, a sunroof, black sport seats and a limited-slip differential. In addition, McQueen replaced the wheels on the 930 shortly after he received the car, switching out the stock wheels for larger-diameter rims. McQueen sold it back to Bob Smith Porsche, which would pass it on to movie producer and writer Floyd Mutrux. The younger McQueen also remembers taking the car out when his dad was not around.
