Man who died in I-78 high-speed wreck that killed son had 30+ arrests - NJ.com

WARREN TOWNSHIP — The father police say sped down Route 78 at more than 100 mph, leading to a crash that killed him and his 9-year-old son , had a decades-long history of dozens of encounters with police — on and off the road. As recently as June, 34-year-old Stephen Weekes was ticketed in Pennsylvania for driving without a license and for violating the rules of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, according to that state's courts database. Weekes had three convictions for traffic offenses in New York — two of them in 2012 for driving without a license. A few months earlier, he was convicted of reckless driving, and sentenced to five days in jail. RELATED: Man, going 100+ mph, and 9-year-old son killed in Route 78 crash, cops say. New Jersey State Police haven't said whether Weekes was unlicensed when he crashed his Honda Accord Saturday night — part of a chain reaction that left two people dead and three seriously hurt. A law enforcement source said New York records show Weekes had been arrested "well over" 30 times since 1997 — when he would have been 15 or 16 years old. The source asked not to be named as he wasn't authorized to release the information, and didn't provide detailed information about the charges. The source said the most recent arrest was last year, on a charge of grand larceny. Source: www.nj.com
