Volvo Throttle Body Gasket 850 5 cylinder
- This gasket is .020 inches or .508mm thick.
- Throttle body cleaning and setting the idle switch will cure most stumbling problems when the engine moves away from idle. Most idle issues such as running too fast or dying at idle is caused by maladjusted throttle body return stop screw and or mis-adjusted throttle idle switch.
- The throttle body should be removed, cleaned and adjusted on a regular basis as part of every day Volvo maintenance. It is easy to do. All the service manuals walk you through it. I like to have a couple of different brands of manuals available. Do a search on eBay and many used manuals are for sale.
- You will find better performance, better idle and increased economy with a clean and properly set throttle body.
- This is the gasket you will need on the 5 cylinder models. The 4 cylinders use 3 bolts.
I try to use a new gasket every time I remove a throttle body and I coat the gasket with a little aviation gasket coating from Permatex because this is a very high vacuum spot on the engine. When you let off the throttle at speed, the vacuum pull on this gasket is high. Any leak will be a source of grit and dirt entering the intake system leading to rapid engine cylinder, piston and ring wear.
