UPDATE: SMITH COUNTY (KYTX)- The preliminary report for the two-vehicle rollover fatal accident on Highway 31 Saturday afternoon has been released. A 2014 black Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on Texas Highway 31 East and a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup was traveling eastbound on Highway 31. The Corolla swerved off the roadway and overcorrected, driving into the opposite lane and striking... The driver of the car, Matthew Jones, 36, of Tyler, was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to Lighthouse Funeral Home in Tyler. The passenger, Kent Jones, 10, of Rusk was also pronounced dead by Smith County Judge Mitch Shamburger and was taken to Lighthouse Funeral Home. The driver of the pickup, Ellisa Phippen, 53, of Gilmer was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to Lighthouse Funeral Home. The passenger, Carlee Phippen, 23, of Tyler was taken to Trinity Mother Frances and her injury status is not available at this time. SMITH COUNTY (KYTX)- CBS 19 has it confirmed from Smith Co. Judge Mitch Shamburger that one of the deceased is a child that was riding in the sedan.
