Alameda County family reported in good condition after two days stranded in Sierra - Sacramento Bee

An Alameda County man and his two young children were reported in good physical condition after spending two days lost in a remote area of Sierra County, sheriff’s officials said. Nicholas Vlahos, 41, his 5-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter were found about 8 p. m. Thursday in the Poker Flat area of western Sierra County, said Officer Joel Burdick of the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office. Burdick said Vlahos’ 2015 black Toyota Tundra 4X4 pickup and become stuck in the rugged area, where there is no cell phone service. Sierra County sheriff’s officials said they received a report shortly after 7 p. m. Tuesday that Vlahos and the children were overdue returning home. Vlahos had said he planned to drive through a remote and rugged portion of Sierra and Plumas counties on his way home.
