Missionary mother killed by runaway truck - WXIA-TV
City Police Chief Stan Bradley said a truck driver was doing a safety inspection on his big rig, which was hauling corrosive cleaning chemicals, in the driveway of Zep Inc. Investigators said the driver, Ivan Delgado, 53, a contract driver from Rome, New York, forgot to put on the truck's parking brake, causing the vehicle to roll into the road's northbound lane. He was not inside the truck at the time. Bradley said the semi truck slammed into a Toyota Tundra carrying a man, woman and two of their children. He told investigators he and his family were driving home to Cartersville, and he did not see the rolling truck until it hit his vehicle. IMB, a missionary organization, posted news about Kyra and her family on their Facebook page. The family started their missionary work in 2009. They were about to return for their third missionary assignment when they were involved in the crash. IMB says Kyra grew up in Cartersville, where she attended Tabernacle Baptist Church. "They're the kind of people you want your children to grow up to be like," Tabernacle Baptist Church Pastor Don Hattaway said. He said it was a great loss to their ministry and a great loss to this church community but he said they have a lot of support and the surviving family members are surrounded by people who love them.
