UT leaders ask judge to dismiss regent's lawsuit against chancellor - Chron.com
University of Texas Regent Wallace Hall Jr. is suing Chancellor Bill McRaven because McRaven refuses to "violate federal and state privacy laws" in providing records to Hall, the chancellor argues in a response filed in a Travis County court Monday. The response was filed after Hall, who is on a quest to get additional information about an investigation into admissions practices at the state's flagship university, in June filed a suit against McRaven, arguing that he was blocking release of... The University of Texas will turn over federally protected student information to a private investigator, Hall argued in his lawsuit, but it won't give the records to a regent. In his response, McRaven again says he has offered several times to provide all of the Kroll documents to Hall after redacting personally identifiable student information, which, if provided, would be in violation of federal and state privacy laws. Hall's claims are "moot," because the regents have decided the issue and established a procedure to provide him with the redacted documents, McRaven argues. In June, Attorney General Ken Paxton said Hall has the right to hire an outside attorney, a decision that empowered the embattled regent to sue the system at UT's expense. Source: www.chron.com
