Pickup trucks at the 2015 Detroit auto show - BBC News
Both Ford and Ram, Fiat Chrysler's truck division, wheeled out high-performance trucks inspired by off-road desert racing. Nissan muscled up its Titan full-size truck with a new, higher-capacity XD version that can be fitted with a brawny V8 diesel engine from esteemed US purveyor Cummins. The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, whose sprint onto stage was attended by an uncharacteristic turbo whine, enjoys the new F-150's aluminium body , which trims roughly 500lbs (227kg) from the previous model’s 6,000lbs of bulk. Along with the celebrity weight-loss programme, Raptor also hit the gym, replacing the current truck's 414-horsepower, 434lb-ft 6. 2-litre V8 engine with a next-generation edition of Ford's popular turbocharged 3. 5-litre V6 EcoBoost. Meanwhile, Nissan rolled out its new Titan XD, a heavier-duty update on the company's full-size pickup, positioning it as a half-tonne-plus category vehicle without moving up to compete against other manufacturers' heavy-duty trucks. Most significantly, the company has partnered with longtime Ram diesel engine supplier Cummins to offer a 310hp, 555lb-ft 5-litre turbodiesel V8 engine. Source: www.bbc.com
