Car Doctor: Recall fix could cost owner - The Providence Journal

I received notice for my 2006 Toyota Tacoma of a recall related to corrosion of the frame. Upon bringing in my truck to the local Toyota dealer, technicians surveyed my frame and determined it would require replacement, instead of re-sealant. They photographed the frame and sent it to Toyota corporate, who then authorized the frame replacement under the recall. I inquired with my dealer and was told that, in the past, shocks and/or the muffler have been found to be rusted to the frame and the dealers technicians had to break it to remove the frame, rendering the piece unusable and in need of replacement. It was explained to me that if this were the case with my truck, the equipment cost to replace the shocks or muffler would be a cost I would be responsible to cover. When I brought my truck in to the Toyota dealer almost seven weeks ago it was in great working condition and not in need of a new muffler or shocks. When a frame gets replaced it comes almost as a kit with the proper fasteners, brake lines and other necessary parts. Depending on the part, you may not need to pay for labor but will need to pay for the new parts. Source: www.providencejournal.com
